Billboard Music Awards 2013

This years Billboard Music Awards (BBMA’s) were held at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas last night, and Taylor Swift was the big winner of the night walking away with a massive 8 gongs, including Artist of the Year.

The show opened with a fantastic performance from Bruno Mars, who was definitely my personal “performance of the night” with Treasure (below). With himself and band in matching red suits, the American singer treated the audience to the dance moves and vocals we know and love from the 27 year old, and the performance as a whole definitely had a Jackson 5 vibe.

Talking of The Jackson 5, Chris Brown’s performance of latest single Fine China was heavily influenced by Michael Jackson, just like the track itself. Closing with an iconic MJ stance behind a backdrop, Brown later admitted on Twitter that his vocals at the beginning of his appearance weren’t as on point as they could’ve been. But hey, when he dances as good as that, we can let him off a little.

The singer also took the time to defend double winner Justin Bieber, tweeting “Congrats @justinbieber. Focus and fuck the bullshit! Love ya boy!”

Being the most followed person in the world on Twitter, there isn’t a single being that doesn’t know who Justin Bieber is. However, that didn’t stop him getting booed as he entered the stage for an acceptance speech (below).

Being a new award introduced to Billboard, the Boyfriend singer beat Taylor Swift and Bruno Mars as the Milestone Award winner. Cheers originally entered the arena upon announcement, but were however later mixed with boo’s. As Justin went to speak, he was taken back from the mixed reaction and you only have to see the look on his face to see how gutted he was.

He handled the situation well, when finally getting the chance to speak stating:

“I’m 19 years old, I think i’m doing a pretty good job. And basically, from my heart, I really just wanna say, it should really be about the music. It should be about the craft, the craft that i’m making. This is not a gimmick, i’m an artist and I should be taken seriously. All this other bull(shit) should not be spoken of.”

Despite this, Bieber took to Twitter to of course thank his fans and to say that he is blessed. He also walked away with Top Male Artist, hosted by Miley Cyrus who revealed her new single, We Can’t Stop, is out on June 3rd.

Asides from his two wins, The Biebs took to the stage for not one, but two performances at the ceremony. Firstly performing Take You, chosen by the fans on Twitter. Later on he joined Will I Am to perform their number 1 hit, #thatpower.

Other performers of the night included his so on again girlfriend Selena Gomez with Come And Get It, her best friend Taylor Swift with 22, Taylor’s duet buddy Ed Sheeran with a beautiful performance of Lego House, Nicki Minaj lap dancing Lil Wayne to High School, Pitbull and Christina Aguilera (who is looking incredible lately!) performed their single Feel This Moment with the help of Morten Harket from 80’s pop group A-ha, and of course not forgetting Miguel who thought it would be an excellent idea to leap across a crowd during his performance  of Adorn, which resulted kicking a fan in the head…
