Okay, okay! I know we’re a week into June already, but I’ve been a busy bee and have only just got the chance to catch up with blogging!
My choice of May album of the month is a no brainer, and although not a new release, and also an EP rather than an album, I could not praise The Monologue EP enough.
Jacob Banks is a 21 year old singer-songwriter from Birmingham – A self confessed storyteller, who has supported the likes of Emeli Sande and Alicia Keys, and to put it bluntly, he is bloody good.
It feels like only yesterday I discovered Jacob online, and now he’s constantly playing festivals and gigs across the country and gaining the recognition he truly deserves. Not only that, the singer is the first unsigned act in Radio 1 history to be given his own Live Lounge performance.
The Monologue is an 8-track EP of vintage soul music with a modern twist. Tracks like Kids On The Corner have a more upbeat approach, whereas beautiful ballads like Dear Simone and Something Beautiful are in some ways haunting and definitely the songs that stick with you.
Check out the official video for Worthy, another great song from the EP, below.
Jacob Banks is without a doubt one to look out for. With music as strong as this for a first EP, i’m excited to see what an album has to offer.
