Selena Gomez – Stars Dance
(Release: July 2013)

It’s easy to be biased about an album release when you’re a fan of the person releasing the album, but Selena Gomez’s release of Stars Dance has been one of my most anticipated ever. There’s no denying I have formed a somewhat mild crush on the 21 year old star recently, and the biggest question was, was I actually going to like her music? I’d of course heard the teen styles of Who Says? and Love You Like A Love Song, but this was a new era to Selena, without Disney or ‘The Scene’ behind her.

Fortunately, Selena Gomez has not let me down, and Stars Dance is the best pop release of 2013 so far. She has matured, but not too much for her sound to be unrecognisable. She tests the waters with songs like Birthday (below) and B.E.A.T., yet still sticks to the ballads we know and love in Love Will Remember.

We were first introduced to this older side of Selena when she released first single, Come And Get It, which was accompanied by a slightly steamy video. She then upped her game further with latest single, Slow Down, which is set to be a massive club tune.

Stars Dance is absolutely ram-packed with floor fillers and the songs that make us yell ‘turn it up!’ and this really is pop music at it’s finest.

With the market for young artists being absolutely massive at the moment (Justin Bieber, Miley Cyrus, Ariana Grande), it’s definitely a tough business to break, but Selena Gomez is doing it well. She enjoyed a very happy 21st birthday recently when Stars Dance flew to number 1 during the first week of it’s release in the iTunes charts.

Selena is currently preparing for the start of her Stars Dance World Tour, starting in California next month. She hits the UK in September, playing two sold out shows at London’s Hammersmith Apollo.
