Every September since 2007, iTunes has made our Septembers a lot more interesting with a month’s long music festival taking place at Camden’s Roundhouse in London. Some of the biggest and best acts have played the festival over the six years, including the likes of Biffy Clyro, One Direction, Usher, Coldplay, Bruno Mars, Foo Fighters and many more. However, 2013 seems to be the biggest and most diverse yet.
The fourth night of the festival saw Tennessee rockers Paramore hit the Roundhouse stage, playing a 90 minute setlist of a mammoth 22 songs, old and new.
With Lady Gaga opening the festival 3 nights previous with nothing but brand new material from upcoming album ARTPOP, the 3 piece had high expectations to impress the media. Fortunately, but they did it effortlessly with the incredible stage presence that tiny front woman Hayley Williams seems to have.
But of course, the stand out moment of the show was when Hayley brought up a lucky audience member to sing Misery Business with her (below). That lucky audience member was Alice, who Nelipott caught up with to ask her about her iTunes experience.
After being a fan of Paramore for so many years, how did it feel when Hayley picked you out of the crowd to join her on stage?
It felt completely surreal! I’ve gotten on stage with them before for Anklebiters in Prague, but getting up for Misery Business is so different because its so personal. That moment when out of hundreds of people Hayley picked me just felt crazy, but a fantastic kind of crazy! It was easily the best moment of my life. Getting to sing and dance with them after 8 years of loving their music was just the best feeling ever!
Dueting with Hayley aside, what was your stand out moment of the iTunes Festival show?
I think my other favourite moment was the speech Hayley gave before In The Mourning. Considering everything they’ve been through they’re so positive about the future and assuring their fans that they can get through anything is a really good message to send out. It just shows the power of music to bring people together and give them something positive in their life.
You travel all around the world to see Paramore live, how many times have you seen them now?
I’ve seen them live 13 times now, and I’ve still got the rest of the UK tour later this month to go as well! Including Manchester, Cardiff, Birmingham, Nottingham and two London dates.
As hard as it is, if you had to choose a favourite Paramore song, what would it be and why?
I always dread this question! I think at the moment it would have to be Last Hope just because it’s such a heartfelt and emotional song, but it’s also really hopeful. I just think it’s such a perfect summary of Paramore. Where they’ve been and where they’re going.
