These days, it seems the UK struggles to find good, honest music. However, somewhere underneath all the mess that has become the music industry, we manage to discover rare gems that come hand in hand with immense talent and the guts to do their own thing.
One of these gems is Elissa Franceschi. Having previously toured in support of Paramore and You Me At Six (at some incredible venues such as Brixton Academy, The Roundhouse and Wembley Arena), she’s received some great reviews from the likes of Daniel Powter and One Republic’s Ryan Tedder, and teamed up with some of the country’s biggest songwriting production houses. Elissa is slowly but surely getting her name out there, and her duet with brother Josh Franceschi, ‘Salt’ (below), didn’t stand in her way, voted as number 1 on the National Student Radio charts and as ‘track of the week’ on Edith Bowman’s Radio 1 Review Show.
A personal favourite and definitely one to start with if you plan on checking out Elissa’s music (and I seriously recommend that you do) is ‘Elliot‘. The tenth track on her third album ‘Into The Light’ features the distinctive vocals of Deaf Havana’s James Veck-Gilodi. These two incredibly unique voices fit together two create what might be one of the best songs Elissa has ever written.
June 24th, earlier this year, saw the release of Elissa’s highly anticipated ‘Devoid of Rue‘, the follow-up EP to her first three independent albums. Funded without label support, the record was created via a successful Pledge Music campaign, using a more interactive process to give her fans live updates and exclusives along the way (including a deluxe acoustic version of the EP).
Recorded and mixed by Matt O’Grady (Deaf Havana, Architects), ‘Devoid of Rue’ has been referred to as an “evolution of songwriting; a brilliant EP that ranges from the older piano-and-vocal tracks from previous albums, to a brand new rockier sounds, right up to the intense, epic tracks that could only be expected from someone with Elissa’s vocals, ‘Devoid of Rue’ perfectly showcases everything that Elissa Franceschi has become. She’s definitely one to watch.”
Since the release of ‘Devoid of Rue’, Elissa has released a number of music videos for tracks such as ‘Dust‘ and ‘All These Days‘. January 2014 sees Elissa tour the UK in support of singer-songwriter Hannah Trigwell in Birmingham, London, Leeds, Manchester and Glasgow.
