41 year old rapper Eminem has announced he will be playing a one-off show at the iconic Wembley Stadium on July 11th. This show will be the first time Eminem, real name Marshall Mathers, has played in London in 13 years.
Mathers confirmed news of the gig during a Radio 1 interview with Zane Lowe. He spoke to the DJ about the show, saying “It’s louder, it’s more in your face, it’s explosive. For me music is about feeling and energy and that definitely adds a whole new element to that.” He also responded to speculation around the gig originally being planned to take place at Hyde Park, but couldn’t get approval.
“I heard that I wasn’t going to be approved to play in Hyde Park and it made me even more excited to play in London this summer. The easiest way to get me to do something is to tell me I can’t do it. Thanks to the Royal Parks for making it all possible… for Wembley.”
Eminem will be the first rapper ever to headline the 90,000 capacity stadium.
