Tonight, BBC Radio 1 DJ Zane Lowe announced the “best project they’ve ever done”, re-soundtracking the 2011 Ryan Gosling film, Drive. Many huge and current acts are billed to be part of the project, all recording brand new, unheard tracks for the film.
The Radio 1 rescores version of Drive sees the likes of Bastille, The 1975, BANKS, The Neighbourhood, Baauer, CHVRCHES, Bring Me The Horizon, Eric Prydz, Foals, Jon Hopkins, Laura Mvula, SBTRKT and Biffy Clyro’s Simon Neil, all appearing on the soundtrack.
Zane Lowe premiered the first song from the soundtrack as his ‘Hottest Record’ on tonights show, coming from Scottish electro-band CHVRCHES with the dark synthy sounds of ‘Get Away‘.
“So excited to be part of this project” tweeted MOBO winner Laura Mvula, and The 1975’s frontman Matthew Healy also spoke about the project;
‘I sat down with Jim (Zane Lowe’s producer) and he began to explain to me how he was in the process of rescoring a movie and did we want to be involved. The film in question was the modern classic ‘Drive’. So of course my answer was ‘yes’. We wrote ‘Medicine’ for our chosen scenes. It’s a new piece of music informed by the genesis of our band and our love for ‘Drive’ as a film.‘
With the film in question already being renowned for it’s outstanding original soundtrack, we’re interested to see Zane Lowe’s 2014 version.
‘Radio 1 Rescores: Drive’ will premiere on BBC3 at 10PM GMT, October 30th.
