It’s been a mammoth year of non-stop touring for The 1975 since the release of their number 1 debut album back in September 2013, but that didn’t stop the Manchester 4-piece wanting to take part in Radio 1’s rescore of movie Drive.
DJ Zane Lowe premiered Medicine as his ‘Hottest Record’ just hours before the film aired on Thursday (October 30th). The song is the first new release from The 1975 in over a year, and it’s climbed it’s way straight to number 1 in the Alternative iTunes chart, just topping Bastille’s ‘The Driver’, also written especially for the Drive rescore.
‘I find it hard to say bye bye, even in the state of you and I’ cracks vocalist Matthew Healy in the opening line to the song, perfectly slotted into the “river scene” of the reworked version of the movie. The song also takes pride of place accompanying the credits, after an ensemble of new music throughout from the likes of Laura Mvula, Bring Me The Horizon, The Neighbourhood and Biffy Clyro’s Simon Neil.
Medicine is available on iTunes now.
