Krept & Konan – Freak of the Week

Where to start with Krept and Konan? The South London hip-hop duo have been everywhere recently. Their latest mixtape, ‘Young Kingz’, barrelled into the UK Top 20 and made history by becoming the highest-ranking unsigned entry since records began. With their debut album just around the corner, they’ve released their new video for ‘Freak of the Week’ featuring US hip-hop giant, Jeremih.

The song itself is ridiculously catchy and peppered with lyrics that may occasionally seem simple, but are loaded and sardonic, highlighting the sarcasm that sits just right with Krept and Konan. With the addition of Jeremih, and the sampling of the playground riddim from ‘Who I Am’, it’s little surprise that the video has almost a million views already.

It sounds like ‘Freak of the Week’ is just a taste of what’s to come for the duo’s debut album with Virgin EMI. Having called in new and old friends like Skepta, Ed Sheeran, Wiz Khalifa and YG, there’s no doubt that ‘The Long Way Home’ will have a sledgehammer impact on the charts when it’s released this summer.

Keep an eye out, Britain. Krept and Konan are coming and they’re not going to play nicely. You can catch Krept and Konan at Wireless Festival or Glastonbury this summer. We’ll be waiting for the album headline tour.

‘Freak of the Week’ is released on June 28th. You can pre-order on iTunes here. Keep up with the boys on Facebook, Twitter or on their website.
