When eighteen-year-old KYKO released his debut single Animals earlier this year, we had a bit of a meltdown over it. Now, we’re being treated to the next song from KYKO’s debut EP, Headlights, and it’s pretty bloody brilliant.
Once again, Verrill’s voice is mesmerising and, although the beat behind him is stronger than Animals, the song manages to hold a slightly melancholic vibe. It’s still the sound of the summer, but it’s even more laid back and more meaningful this time around. You know those moments in teenage dramas where everything goes slow motion whilst people are sharing meaningful looks, or dancing seductively at a party in the woods? This is the sort of song they’d have in the background. Seriously.
You can pre-order KYKO’s EP now and receive Headlights immediately. We don’t think that’s a bad deal. If, like us, you’re itching to see KYKO live, you can catch him at the following dates over the next few weeks. You’ll find us dancing at the front.
9 June – Camden Barfly, London
12 June – Kopparberg Urban Forest Gig, Hackney Wick, London
