Last night was the first time I saw Glass Animals, and it definitely won’t be the last.
Before 9pm yesterday I’d listened to approximately 5 songs from the band, once through, and that was it. Truth be told I had no idea what to expect.
I walked into a sold out venue to see a 7 foot cactus, a pineapple, and a picture of a watermelon on the front of the drum set. I was pumped.
A few songs I recognised such as ‘Life Itself’, ‘Season 2 Episode 3’, and ‘Gooey’ were serious crowd pleasers. It’s been a while since I’ve been in a venue of only 1,000 people or so and the energy was contagious.
The surprise song of the evening for me was ‘Poplar St’. This is a song I’d never heard before last night but half way through I was obsessed. There’s something about hearing it live which has a slight edge over the studio version but either way, I would 100% recommend.
If anyone has the opportunity to see Glass Animals this year I would highly encourage you to do so. Learn a few of the songs beforehand, (learn from my mistake), and have fun singing your little hearts out.
Glass Animals are touring Europe and the US this year. Tour dates can be found at http://www.glassanimals.eu/live/.
